Our Small Animal Vets

Dr. Nicole Nicholson

DVM

Nicole Nicholson joined us immediately after graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2010. We have benefited greatly from her up-to-date knowledge and experience. Nicole has always been passionate about animals and their health and welfare. When she is not busy being a veterinarian, she enjoys running, reading, and spending time with her husband Dan and their friends. They have a dog named Logan, and we suspect her kind heart will be taking in another rescue sometime soon!

Dr. Lisa Byram

DVM

Lisa Byram has always had a passion for animals of all sizes. Prior to becoming a vet, she enjoyed various summer jobs involving horses, cattle, and even zoo animals. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1995 and started her position in Listowel in February 2002. She is particularly interested in Internal Medicine and recently completed a comprehensive course in ultrasound. She lives in Listowel with her husband Rod and two boys, Matthew and Carter. The family keeps busy with hockey, soccer, swimming, and camping. They have a lovable yellow Labrador Retriever named Henry, who enjoys playing with the boys, running, swimming, and eating children’s socks.

Dr. Kim Watson-McKenzie

DVM

Kim Watson-McKenzie had a rural upbringing, and animals have always been an important part of her life. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1994, started her position in Listowel in January 2005, and became a co-owner in 2008. Kim has extensive experience in both Medicine and Surgery. Kim and her husband, Rob, enjoy spending time with their three children Melynda, Brayden, and Turner, and continue to be the kids’ biggest fans no matter what sport they are participating in. They also appreciate visits with family ‘back at the farm’, daily walks, and an opportunity to ride their motorcycles. They have an energetic yellow lab named Nala and a playful cat named Ike.

Dr. Mary Walker
DVM

Mary Walker graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2011 and is happy to be splitting her time between Heartland Animal Hospital of Listowel and Drayton. Mary grew up in the city of Brampton and is enjoying the more rural lifestyle that Listowel offers. Mary has an interest in pain management in her surgical and medical cases. This past spring, she participated in a comprehensive course on abdominal ultrasound and just completed a similar course for horses. Mary loves to travel, read, and relax with friends and family at her family cottage in her free time. She lives in Listowel with her loveable but mischievous dog Wiley “The Coyote.” He is rescued from a Northern Ontario native reserve and is a constant source of entertainment (and trouble) in his efforts to be an indoor dog!

Dr. Emma Webster

DVM

Emma Webster spent her veterinary externship with us in 2008, and so we knew we were very fortunate to have her join our team when she graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2009. In addition to an admirable level of general veterinary knowledge, she has taken a comprehensive course in ultrasound and dentistry and has a special interest in Ophthalmology. Outside of the clinic, Emma enjoys horseback riding, painting, and spending time with her family on their hobby farm in Drayton. Emma shares the farm chores with her husband Rob, three children (Miles, Sidney, and Samantha), their dog Kajun, their cat Spencer and about 20 chickens.

Dr. Brooke Galloway

DVM

Brooke graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2022 and began working for Heartland after graduation. Before veterinary school, Brooke completed her diploma in Agriculture at Kemptville College and her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Guelph. Born and raised south of Ottawa, Brooke now calls Listowel home with her husband, Cole. You can find Brooke in the small animal clinic or on the farm, as her veterinary interests include small and large animal emergency medicine and surgery.

Brooke enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with her friends and family when she is not busy at work. Brooke and Cole also spend time working with their heifers under their prefix Goldline Genetics and share their home with their cat, Ellie.

Dr. Colleen Bryan

DVM

Colleen graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2014. Shortly thereafter, she joined Heartland covering maternity leave and has been with us ever since. Colleen grew up in London, Ontario, and has always had an interest in working with animals, big and small. Her interests include feline medicine and pain management. She also has a growing interest in dentistry and has completed additional training on the latest techniques. When not at the clinic, Colleen can be found horseback riding, reading, or camping. Colleen, her husband James, and their children live on a farm with their horses; Ace and Beaker, and cats; Lyla, Cheeto & Marm.

Dr. Sam Dobson

Sam was born and raised in Listowel and began working with the Heartland team in 2016 as a high school co-op student, before going off to university. She returned in the summer of 2020 and 2021 as an ACA while completing her veterinary schooling. Sam graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2023, and finally joined the Heartland team for good shortly thereafter. Her areas of interest include companion animal internal medicine and oncology, and Sam plans to expand her practice to our avian, reptile, and small mammal friends. In her spare time, Sam enjoys hiking with her dog Lola, camping, reading, and playing fetch with her cat Jeff.
