Veterinary Student Applications

Heartland has a very passionate team who are committed to teaching, training and mentoring not only clients but future members of the veterinary profession. Heartland’s practice has a mix of companion animal, equine, and food animal cases to offer exposure to students interested in those fields.

Our companion animal veterinary team includes more than eight dedicated veterinarians who collaboratively manage a diverse caseload across our three well-equipped companion animal locations. We offer a balanced mix of preventive care, routine procedures, and emergency services—all delivered with a strong commitment to compassionate, high-quality medicine.  We offer inhouse bloodwork, digital radiology, inhouse ultrasound and dental radiograph. We are most proud of our full team of amazing technicians who are a valuable part of our teaching and mentoring program.

Our equine veterinary team delivers a wide range of services to meet the needs of a diverse client base—from pleasure horse owners to performance equine athletes. We emphasize proactive care, including vaccinations, dental procedures, and routine surgeries, while also providing specialized services such as reproductive evaluations, lameness assessments, and emergency medical care. Students working with our team will be exposed to a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic tools, including in-house bloodwork, digital radiography, limb and reproductive ultrasound, and newly offered at Heartland- Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy (VSMT). On our busiest days, we’re fortunate to be supported by an equine-trained technician.

Our food animal veterinary team offers veterinary services to dairy, beef and small ruminant clients interested in high level production and emergency medicine as well as advanced bovine reproductive technologies. These include bull testing and semen freezing, conventional embryo transfer and in vitro fertilization. If you are a veterinary student who is interested in this type of food animal practice please click “here” to apply for an externship or express interest in an external elective.
