Meet the Team
Our Small Animal Vets
Dr. Nicole Nicholson
DVM
Nicole Nicholson joined us immediately after graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2010. We have benefited greatly from her up-to-date knowledge and experience. Nicole has always been passionate about animals and their health and welfare. When she is not busy being a veterinarian, she enjoys running, reading, and spending time with her husband Dan and their friends.
Dr. Lisa Byram
DVM
Lisa Byram has always had a passion for animals of all sizes. Prior to becoming a vet, she enjoyed various summer jobs involving horses, cattle, and even zoo animals. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1995 and started her position in Listowel in February 2002. She is particularly interested in Internal Medicine and recently completed a comprehensive course in ultrasound. She lives in Listowel with her husband Rod and two boys, Matthew and Carter. The family keeps busy with hockey, soccer, swimming, and camping. They have a lovable yellow Labrador Retriever named Henry, who enjoys playing with the boys, running, swimming, and eating children’s socks.
Dr. Kim Watson-McKenzie
Kim had a rural upbringing, and animals have always been an important part of her life. She graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1994, started her position in Listowel in 2005 and became co-owner in 2008. Kim has extensive experience in both medicine and surgery. Kim and her husband, Rob, are parents to three children Melynda, Brayden, and Turner (d.2023). They enjoy spending time with their family and the family labs – Nala, Magnolia, and Ginger. They also welcome any opportunity to ride their motorcycles, ATV’s, and snowmobiles as well as spending down time at the family cottage on the Ottawa River.
Dr. Mary Walker
Dr. Mary joined the Heartland team in 2011 and has built her career as a dedicated small-animal veterinarian. She has a special interest in pain management for both medical and surgical patients and has completed additional training in dental surgery and ultrasonography—so it’s no surprise that she’s often found in the treatment room multitasking.
Mary is one of the Heartland’s owners and is proud of Heartland’s growth as a private, community-focused clinic. She is in awe of Heartland’s technical team who are continuously teaching each other and advocating for excellent patient care.
At home, she shares her space—and often her bed—with two dogs and a cat. When she’s off the clock, you’ll find her reading, enjoying time at the lake, and wishing she could fit more travel into her life.
Dr. Emma Webster
DVM
Emma Webster spent her veterinary externship with us in 2008, and so we knew we were very fortunate to have her join our team when she graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2009. In addition to an admirable level of general veterinary knowledge, she has taken a comprehensive course in ultrasound and dentistry and has a special interest in Ophthalmology. Outside of the clinic, Emma enjoys horseback riding, painting, and spending time with her family on their hobby farm in Drayton. Emma shares the farm chores with her husband Rob, three children (Miles, Sidney, and Samantha), their dog Kajun, their cat Spencer and about 20 chickens.
Dr. Brooke Galloway
DVM
Brooke graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2022 and began working for Heartland after graduation. Before veterinary school, Brooke completed her diploma in Agriculture at Kemptville College and her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Guelph. Born and raised south of Ottawa, Brooke now calls Listowel home with her husband, Cole. You can find Brooke in the small animal clinic or on the farm, as her veterinary interests include small and large animal emergency medicine and surgery.
Brooke enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with her friends and family when she is not busy at work. Brooke and Cole also spend time working with their heifers under their prefix Goldline Genetics and share their home with their cat, Ellie.
Dr. Colleen Bryan
DVM
Colleen graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2014. Shortly thereafter, she joined Heartland covering maternity leave and has been with us ever since. Colleen grew up in London, Ontario, and has always had an interest in working with animals, big and small. Her interests include feline medicine and pain management. She also has a growing interest in dentistry and has completed additional training on the latest techniques. When not at the clinic, Colleen can be found horseback riding, reading, or camping. Colleen, her husband James, and their children live on a farm with their horses; Ace and Beaker, and cats; Lyla, Cheeto & Marm.
Dr. Kathy Hunt
DVM
Kathy has a life-long love for animals, deciding at the wise old age of four to become a veterinarian. She fulfilled that dream upon graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1981, and since then has been devoted to her veterinary career, making a difference in the lives of pets and the people who love and care for them. She joined Heartland Animal Hospital in 2024 bringing her love for animals and her professional experience to the team. Kathy shares her life with three greyhounds, Rosie, Dash, and Meeka, enjoying trail walking and agility training with them. She values the time she spends with her four children, three grandchildren and her mother. She is also kept busy pursuing photography and sports, such as speed skating, cycling, and skiing, and recharges at her cottage on the shores of Lake Superior.
